Break Time

Howdy all. As you hopefuuly know, last weekend was Thanksgiving. Yay! That means that i was home gettign to see a lot of beautiful faces i hadn't seen for quite sometime. I even got to see some beautiful faces i had never seen, as well as some rather angry, unattractive faces that i would prefer to never see again. But that is the grab bag of life. Its wild to think that i'll be repeating the journey back to Indian territory in less than three weeks. Finals will soon be over (for better or for worse). Dear me, there is a very soft electronic buzz issuing forth from one of the many devices surrounding me. Wuite distracting. Like a fly around your ears, except you can;t swat it, or even locate it. So i geuss the only similarity is the buzzing. **sigh** So i'll be back for Christmas in a few weeks. I have started gathering Christmas music and listening to it. It's pretty great. I also started Season 2 of 24...also great. Perhaps i shouldn;t have started at a crunch time in the academic year, but eh, i did it, and now there is no going back. Here are some pics.

OK, this is kind of hard to explain. A few years ago my dad started picking up some of the many fallen acorns that litter our driveway and yard. He then began to toss the acorns at our birdfeeder in the front yard. Soon i began to imitate his actions, like some sort of dog or toddler, or dog. One Sunday, this casual tossing became a competition to see who coudl hit the squirrel guard below the bird feeder. Then that competition became structured. We stood on the deck, each armed with 25 potential oak trees, and alternated throws. He who struck the squirrel guard the most times would win. Now that competition has evolved into a thanksgiving tradition which crowns the king of acorns. As you can see, i won this year, in sudden death overtime mind you, 6-5 over my brother Paul. I am holding the trophy which now bears my name in oh-so-tiny print. We have to leave room for future generations of acorn tossers. Exciting times at the Carr household :).

My sister and i are geared up for a brisk thanksgiving morning run. In no way could this have compensated for the masses of food that we consumed later that day, but every little bit helps i guess. Check out the size of that watch...yeah, its not mine.

SPARE TIME BOWLING! The best kept secret in the dice game industry, and almost the best kept secret in all of gamedom (second only to Dealer's Choice). If you coem over, ask to play this game. I guarantee plenty of ridicule, screaming and downright bad luck.

I would finish with a poem, but i feel it is too long for this post. Thank me later Ben.

Waiting Willfully For Wizards

As most of you know, or even if you didn't know, you should assume this to be fact, I went to the midnight show of Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire on Thursday Night/Friday Morning.

This is the building across the street from the theatre we went to. When people asked what we were waiting for (and lots of people did since we got there at 2:30 in the afternoon), my friend Myles and I juast pointed at this building. Some people looked up to the sky in confusion. Others stared confused. Some thought that November 18th was a week away and that we were insane. Others gave a proud nod. Still others asked, "So is Harry older now?" Ummm...yes. Well that person really should have just kept walking

Good ole Tommy Lee Jones kept us company while we sat planted on the sidewalk for 9.5 hours. My toes...AHHH!

Thats the front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The place holds a bajillion people, has a screen almost as wide as an Imax, and houses a THX certified sound system custom built to work optimally only in that theatre. THe movie wasn;t even shown on film. A Digital Light Projector eliminated all those annoying cracks and "cigarette holes" on normal prints. fantastic.

So it was light, and now it's dark. 3 hours down, 6.5 to go! Oh, and you see shrek standing there. There are lots of people outside of Grauman's trying to get money by dressing up as movie characters. All these people are a little off the beaten path to say the least. By the end of the day/night, many of them were friends with Myles and I. They would just come over and chat w/ us while they were taking a break. Somr asked about our college careers, others abotu favorite movies. All were congenial. Good times.

Just a blurrier, wider shot of the front of Grauman's. Most of those people in front are Asian tourists. You are probably wonderign why there arent any pictures of myself or any of the other members of my group in here. Well, i left my camera sittign on the sidewalk we were sitting on, and apparently cement drains the batteries of electronic devices. I had three people tell me this that night and i had never heard of the phenomenon before...crazy. So this concludes my briefing. I'll be home soon...yay.

And Down the Stretch They Come!

So I'll be home in a week. Actually I probably won;t be at home because as soon as i set foot in t-town the celebrations, reunions, sharing, and loving will begin. Look out, they just might continue for 5 days straight. The pre-Thanksgiving crunch is on...kind of. Just one beast paper due right before i leave. Its weird that i am registering for next semester's classes already. Newness every semester will be strange, welcome, exciting, and worrisome.

I quit Nanowrimo a whopping 6000 words in. Most of you already knew, but for all the drifters that don't frequently communicate with me. In 48 hours i will be sitting inside Grauman's Chinese Theatre in downtown Hollywood eagerly awaiting Hedwig's Theme to crescendo into my perked ears. It'll be great. The ole birthday was pretty non stop. My first birthday away from home. I am feeling inspired tonight because i just got back from this little coffee house where students were performing mostly original songs and what not. One guy was incredible on the harmonica. I'm tired. Drive safely.

NaNoWriMo

I have decided to participate in National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo). Consider blogging put on the backburner for a bit. Personal contact will still be kept up via email and la telefono. Heck, i will probably still check the blogs. I just came to the realization that i havent written much for fun lately. Why not sacrifice hours of sleep for a sense of accomplishment? Happy writing everyone.
